I have always loved the colors of this particular assortment of 'legumes.' It has split peas, red beans, navy beans, lentils, etc. I decided to use that as a palette. It is full of warm, earthy tones that give the feeling of comfort and home. So, what else personifies home? One's culture, of course. I decided to go with the mood of Asian culture, specifically 'Americanized' Asian. To complete the 'home-made, like-mother-used-to-make' feeling I began to investigate the texture of plants. I found this beautiful clump of dried leaves. So, with the color of the beans, the 'Asian-American' culture, and a texture that is straight-from-the-garden, I think there's something here that can speak to people who grew up in an eclectic home. Life may feel busy sometimes, like this picture suggests, but it is all held together by the same recurring feelings of warmth and belonging.

It does have an earthy, safe feeling like going into a cozy little room where there would be a hearth with a fire in it and tea set on the table and a woman sitting in a rocker darning socks.
I like what you said about life being busy but being held together by warmth and belonging. It reminds me of the feelings of unity that held America together after 9/11.
